Peruvians will celebrate Christmas differently this year, as they will have to abide by the mandatory social immobilization restriction set by the Government in order to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

In the case of Lima Metropolitan Area, Lima Provinces, and Callao, the mandatory social immobilization is in place from 11:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m.

In Tumbes, Piura, Lambayeque, and La Libertad regions, as well as in Santa Province (Ancash region), the movement of people is limited between 10:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m.

This new provision was confirmed by Health Minister Pilar Mazzetti on Monday in a press conference held along with other members of the Ministerial Cabinet after a meeting in which they addressed the COVID-19 situation in the country.

"As we all know, COVID-19 does not behave the same way everywhere; we have seen the different components of the infection dynamics in Europe and North America and what has happened recently," the minister stated.

"In this sense, the entire working group has begun to analyze the most appropriate territory-based approach as well as the measures that may vary in different parts of our country," she added.

She even said that it is necessary to analyze the impacts on different cities.
